Growing up in the 1960’s, one of my favorite car designs was the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. There was nothing else like it on the road with its flowing fastback profile, flush sail panel, an elongated dash to axle, exaggerated wheel flares, blade front fenders and horizontal grille bars with a nod to the Auburn Cord grille which was also front wheel drive. The Toronado styling had a big impact on my desire to be a car designer at GM.
In this post, I demonstrate how to use a photo of my favorite car and elevate it with Vizcom.ai so that you can do the same with photos of cars that you own or admire.
I started with a photo of Jay Leno’s souped up Toronado in ‘Trumpet Gold’. The image is an excellent front 3/4 view with enough perspective to make it dramatic. I chose to render the photo in ‘Target Red’ which was my favorite color on the Toro in 1966.
I used a red 1959 Cadillac photo as a reference image because the reflections are so juicy and dramatic.
I had the best results in Vizcom with the style: Pastel Render. I combined the best hood, front bumper and background generated images over a base image using Adobe Photoshop. I then added details that I found on the internet such as the grille and lettering. Lastly, I cleaned everything up in Photoshop.
It wasn’t intentional but the red and green cars in the featured image are appropriate for the holiday season.
