About Me

I designed cars for 41 years at General Motors Design Center. I’ve worked in Chevrolet, Saturn, Buick and Cadillac studios. By far, the most fun I had was working on Cadillacs. I loved the combination of shear forms, the elegance and sophistication, the details, the light signature, the stance and proportion. All together, they made Cadillacs fun to draw. My most notable design contributions were the 2008 CTS sedan and particularly the 2010 CTS coupe. Surprisingly, I see them on the road to this day.

I still get a tremendous satisfaction from creating new car designs. People ask me why I continue to sketch cars. My answer is that there are two kinds of people: those who love cars and everyone else. If I get a blank stare from someone after looking at my sketches, then I know you’re not one of us.

I want to share my work with you through this blog and take you through the process of how I created them. Artificial Intelligence is an exciting new development for rendering cars and has dramatically improved how a designer can express and communicate their ideas more effectively. I like using vizcom.ai, but it has it’s limitations. I will share with you tips on how to use Adobe Photoshop in conjunction with vizcom.ai to raise the level of your design work.

These techniques don’t replace the single most important part of car design which is, of course, the creative idea, the inspired vision.
