I was very excited to learn about ChatGPT’s Sora-AI video generator from Ron Will who shared with me a Sora generated video of my Electric Camaro. I was so blown away by the results, I got a subscription the next day.
Sora breathes life into my designs. It adds drama and realism to my sketches in a way that enhances my original designs by adding new details and surfaces that complement it. Although sometimes it completely ignores my original design and creates something equally compelling. It can be glitchy at times by adding a random shape to its videos. I’m still new at editing and optimizing the prompts to make a final judgement. But overall it’s very effective at turning a 2D sketch into a 3D animation while preserving the integrity of the original design.
You upload an image in Sora, select the resolution, aspect ratio, video length and describe what you want in the prompt, then click on the generate video button. Sora will create 2 videos to choose from (ChatGPT Plus subscription). Be specific in the prompt: describe the mood, camera angles, lighting and visual style, then experiment and refine. I recommend viewing the Sora tutorials first. It helps to know what you’re doing since you can burn through monthly allotted credits very fast. (Sora credits are based on the computing resources required to produce the videos).
You can optimize your videos by selecting a specific portion that you like, then regenerate it to get a better result for the rest of the video.
Remix is an iteration tool to adjust your video using the text prompt to add, remove or edit objects in the description.
Blend allows you to combine 2 videos and adjust the amount of influence of each video.
I’ve included new views of my Bugatti Royale rendered with Adobe Photoshop from various individual frames of the Sora videos. I can slowly advance the video until I find the best view with the best reflections. Sora not only adds new views of my sketches but also improves them.
Oddly, when I regenerated the new view of my Bugatti Royale rendering in Sora, it created a whole new mid-engine design. Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful rendition.
Sora turned my 4th video into more of a tease. When I tried to remix it to include the front half of the car, it generated an entirely new design.
I used the 4th video to improve what was my featured image. I created the 5th video from that image. Unfortunately, I used up all of my monthly allotted credits in 4 days!
I decided to do a new featured image since I wasn’t satisfied with the old one. I generated the 6th video from it using Runway ML. When you compare the 5th Sora video with the 6th Runway video, I feel the latter is smoother and more polished. (Learn more about Runway ML in my Cadillac CT5 Electric post).
