I was trying to imagine a futuristic one box sedan when I started this series of sketches. I did several 2” to 3” pencil sketches on paper that had the feeling I was after. I wanted a long wheelbase with minimal front and rear overhangs plus an all glass upper. I also wanted to introduce softer forms into the surfacing. My goal with this design was to not look like an SUV or a wagon but a whole new category: an electric, high utility, luxury sports car.
Once I had a design direction on paper, I used Photoshop to sketch it over a rendering with a view that I liked. The bodyside came together quickly. I went through 4 or 5 front end designs before I landed on the final one. Since this is an electric car concept, the design doesn’t require a grille which makes it more difficult to put a ‘face’ on it.
I had the best results in Vizcom with the style: Cyber Cel. My post includes the rendering I used for the reference image in Vizcom. I combined 4 Vizcom renderings in Photoshop of the upper, bodyside, hood and front end for the featured rendering. I’ve included the composite of all 4 from which I rendered the final version.
I decided to brand this concept as a Buick because of the softer shapes I had developed which helped with the front end direction. I thought shooting brake was an apt description for this project since I felt the design combined utility with an aggressive look. For those that are curious as to what a shooting brake is, it’s a car with enough rear cargo space to fit people and all the equipment needed to go on a hunting trip.
P.S. I updated the front end from Tuvyah Schleifer’s MidJourney version of my original rendering.

I especially like the soft bulge over the rear wheel on your featured rendering. The raw Vizcom rendering is very cool—an abstract interpretation of the design—an art style.
