Cadillac Near Future

A Forward Looking Design

This sedan design features a belt kick up, not unlike those found on Cadillac cars from the 60’s. Instead of a sail panel, I chose to create a privacy panel for the rear passengers which prominently displays the Cadillac badge.

The rear design makes a dramatic statement with sculptured shapes contained within the shear edges of the deck lid and quarter. This provides good aerodynamics with clean separation of the air as it exits the rear of the car.

I was originally working on one box designs with the Cadillac InnerSpace concept car in mind. I will be creating a polished version of one of these designs in a future post. But I wanted to share the work flow of how I ended up with the featured rendering.

After I designed the one box proposals, I saw the Cadillac Opulent Velocity concept car which made me shift gears to analyze what it takes to create a modern Cadillac design. I generated line drawings in Photoshop of my rendering with the red background and several Cadillac designs including the Opulent Velocity concept car to better compare the design features, proportions and details. The final line drawing was the result of that study.

Since the initial Vizcom generated images from the line drawing looked cartoonish, I re-proportioned the design in Photoshop to make the sedan more believable looking . I found that I got the most usable results in Vizcom with the style: Cyber Cel.

  1. Great design. That sharp trailing edge was something I remember while working in advanced aerodynamics studio.
