I decided to push Vizcom further with their first and last frame feature by selecting a more futuristic sketch for the last frame. The one I used was the original inspiration for the red sketch of a Cadillac Vision Concept in my fifth post. I used the same red sketch in the first frame for the start of the video. The transition between the first and last frame in the video was smooth and dramatic.
I chose a still frame from the video, which was a side view, to explore the design further. I particularly liked the front half of the car. I designed a rear half to go with that front. I was intrigued with the idea of a performance sedan that was also high end luxury.
I’m trying to introduce softer shapes in my designs. That seems to be the trend. My goal with this concept was to blend soft forms with concave ones harmoniously. Sometimes creating a unified design out of disparate elements becomes a challenge for me. This was the case for this concept with its shear shapes in stark contrast to the full forms.
Since this is a Cadillac, I felt that the brand should maintain a degree of hard edges regardless of the latest trend. Porsche owns soft voluptuous shapes and has been consistent with that design formula for many years. Cadillac should plant the flag on shear forms.
I wanted to show the rear door sheet metal with the door open in my sketch, so I made it a bi-fold door. It also adds a degree of functionality for ease of entry and egress.
I used the Cadillac Elevated Velocity Concept interior in my featured image. It suited the exterior design.
All of these images required Photoshopping, some of them more than others. In many cases, I had to create the reflections. After I polished the sketches, I ran them through TopazLabs Bloom upscaling to clean them up further before generating the videos.
My video starts with a Vizcom animation for the transition. The rest of the videos were generated using Runway ML since Vizcom cut me off of future animations due to overuse. I need to switch to a professional account from my current free one at either $40/mo paid annually or $49 paid by the month. I have contacted sales but haven’t heard back from them.
Later I realized that the falling crease line under the belt might be seen as copying a Malibu. The concave bodyside also resembles a ‘56 Corvette. However, I don’t feel that the final design resembles either.
This is an entirely new way for me to evolve and develop ideas. The transition between very different designs utilizing Vizcom’s first and last frame feature yields unexpected results. As the editor, I look for new and desirable combinations of design elements to explore further.
I’m looking forward to utilizing it more with my professional account in the future.
