I’m rarely satisfied with my finished designs. But I liked the Citroen design in my last post enough to do a polished version of it in Adobe Photoshop.
The idea behind this concept was to maximize the passenger compartment but still utilize a deck lid which creates a distinctive and unique proportion that could pass for a Citroen. The rearward vision relies on cameras. The trailing edges at the back provide optimal aerodynamics. I still consider this a sedan but with high utility.
For this post, I started with the raw rear 3/4 still frame from the Sora video I generated from the first Citroen post. I clipped the bodyside from the Citroen featured image of my previous post and overlayed it on the still frame, reducing the transparency. This lightened and defined the bodyside plus gave it volume.
I often clip selective areas on my sketches to vary the darkness, contrast and color. This is a much cleaner way to vary the shading than using the brush tool.
A technique I use to clean up edges without using the brush tool is to clip an area along a defined perimeter that I want to clean up. I first duplicate the layer then use the arrow keys to move the clipped lasso perimeter away from the edge that I want to clean up onto an adjacent area. I then choose the move tool along with the arrow keys to move the clipped area back to the defined edge. This technique does require you to be accurate while picking the clipped area edges with the lasso tool. I demonstrate this technique in the images below. Note that I’m still using CS4.
All details on my sketches such as wheels, graphics and grills are clipped first then added as a layer to my working sketch. I can then modify the layers to match the perspective and scale of my sketch.
I constantly mirror my sketches as I work on them to get a fresh eye on any changes. I mostly use horizontal mirroring but sometimes vertical mirroring is useful for evaluating line quality.
As I’m working on a sketch, I usually select 25% or 50% at 2000 pixels width for the image size. I also like to reduce the size of my sketches on my monitor to 15% to better see the entire car’s proportion. All my pencil sketches are drawn small for the same reason.
I generated AI videos from my featured image in Chat GPT Sora and Runway ML and combined them into one video using the video merger tool on Adobe Express. I had the best outcome by leaving the prompt blank. Runway added the glowing lights for dramatic effect on its own.
The last 2 images in this post were rendered from video still frames using Photoshop. The featured image was totally rendered with Adobe Photoshop. Any of these renderings could have been the featured image.
