Cadillac GT3 R Race Car concept rear 3/4 using Photoshop and Vizcom.ai
A Stylized Expression

This design evolved from the series of sketches in my last post: Cadillac Near Future. After designing a sedan, I like to loosen up and push myself to put more reach into the next project.

The inspiration for this design is rooted in the aquatic speed shape that I found on Pinterest years ago. I’m constantly scanning Autoblog, Instagram, Behance, Pinterest and NetCarShow to stay up to date on automotive design trends.

I started with this simple sketch that I inputted into Vizcom to generate the next posted sketch. I like to evolve the design by adding more detail in Photoshop then utilize Vizcom to choose from a variety of alternative executions. Lately, I’ve had better luck for usable renderings with Vizcom General and Pastel Render styles. I combine several areas that I like into one design using Photoshop. Another trick I use is varying the transparency of a layer over different Vizcom versions.

Initially, I was experimenting with form development without a specific brand in mind. I decided to turn the design into a stylized GT3 R Cadillac race car to add more drama to the sketch. Most of my posts are Cadillac’s since they’re so fun to draw.

My favorite part of the design is the floating ‘U-shaped’ tail light that intersects the rear quarter fender to create a unique three-dimensional light signature.

  1. Exciting design! I appreciate many subtle details, like the line that continues into the surface from the top of the side glass, and the break at the back of the upper/quarter panel with the air exit slot at the base of the upper.
