The annual EyesOn Design show at the Ford House was blessed with a beautiful sunny day on Father’s Day. Mid-field there was an Art of Design exhibit under a tent with a clear roof displaying 15 car designer’s sketches from GM and Ford.

Last year, the EyesOn Design exhibition reintroduced The Art of Design, a special display spanning the early 1930s through the 1990s that celebrated original hand-drawn automotive design artwork. The exhibit recognized the talented designers whose sketches and renderings established the themes and ultimately influenced the production and concept automobiles of their era, both exterior and interior.

This year’s EyesOn Design theme, “Power and Elegance,” continued that tradition. Many of the sketches displayed in The Art of Design were created in General Motors and Ford design studios from the 1960s through the 2010s. Due to its popularity, EyesOn Design at the Ford House plans to continue the exhibit as an ongoing feature, reinforcing its commitment to celebrating the art and history of automotive design.

This was the first show that I co-curated, managed, laid out and set up. The following designers contributed to the show:

Glen Durmisevich, Chris Gamble, Kuni Ito, Wayne Kady, Clark Lincoln, John Mack, Bill Michalak, Bob Munson, Garen Nicoghosian, Camilo Pardo, John Perkins, Tom and Carolyn Peters, Christos Roustemis and Dick Ruzzin

A special thanks to Steve Brown for helping me set up the show!

  1. Great looking designs Bob!!
Many years ago I went to an automobile art exhibition at a Ford home on Lake Staint Clair. What I remember was the ford garage…it had a rotating floor in it. So the driver didn’t have to back up and turn around to leave. Amazed me.
