Royal Oak Show 2026

Passion for Design

Since 2017, I’ve exhibited sketches with the League of Retired Automotive Designers at the Royal Oak Historical Society Museum, and this year is no exception. What makes this year’s exhibition especially interesting is that we’re sharing the gallery with transportation design students from the Center for Creative Studies—automotive designers representing opposite ends of the same professional journey.

I contributed three sketches to this year’s show.

The first is a 2019 Stutz Bearcat concept rendered entirely in Adobe Photoshop. Out of curiosity, I decided to see what Vizcom could do with it. After a few minor Photoshop refinements, I was impressed with the results.

The second is a Bugatti Royale proposal, created primarily in Vizcom with considerable Photoshop enhancement. This rendering was also displayed earlier this year at the EyesOn Design exhibition on the grounds of Ford House.

The third sketch is a mid-engine show car concept with no specific brand in mind. The design explores a theme in which negative space is created by removing sections of the bodywork, such as the black side air intake and the taillamp area.

This year’s exhibition features 38 pieces by 12 artists. Rather than focusing on a single featured marque, designers were encouraged to exhibit personal favorites from throughout their careers, along with new concepts inspired by any automotive brand.

I included Daniel Kim’s 2025 CCS thesis project of a Bugatti concept which blew everyone away!

The exhibition opens in conjunction with the Muscle & More car show on August 1. The artwork will remain on display through August 18. Museum hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
